Accessibility
10 moons should work for every parent.
Pregnancy and the first year are hard enough without an app getting in the way. We want 10 moons to be usable whether you read with a screen reader, zoom in, navigate by keyboard, prefer less motion, or are holding a baby with one arm at three in the morning.
What we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, the standard referenced by the European Accessibility Act and EN 301 549. We haven’t had an independent audit yet, so we don’t claim full conformance. This page says what we’ve done and what we know still needs work.
What we've done
- Text and controls meet AA color contrast against the night-sky background.
- Every page can be used with a keyboard, with a visible focus ring.
- Tap targets are at least 24 by 24 pixels, and most are larger.
- Animations, including the turning Family Wheel, stop when your device asks for reduced motion.
- Drawings are decorative. Where a picture carries meaning, such as who sits in which chair on the Family Wheel, the same information is written out in text.
- Pages work at 200% zoom and on narrow phone screens without scrolling sideways.
- Read to me uses your device’s own voice, and every text it reads is also on the screen.
- Help now is in the bottom bar on every page, one tap away.
How we test
On 2026-11-06 we ran the open-source axe-core checker against WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 A and AA rules on our main pages at phone width, and fixed everything it found. Automated tools catch only part of what matters, so we’d especially value hearing from people who use assistive technology every day.
What we know still needs work
- The PDFs you can download (birth plan, questions for your midwife, scenario notes) are not yet tagged for screen readers. The same content is available as text in the app.
- Headings use a handwritten typeface. Body text uses a plain sans-serif. If the handwriting is hard for you to read, please tell us.
- Read to me depends on the voices installed on your device, and some devices have none.
- We haven’t yet tested the whole app with screen reader users.
Tell us what's in your way
If something in 10 moons is hard to use, or you need content in another format, email hello@10moons.app. Tell us the page and what happened, if you can. We read every message and will reply as soon as we can.
If you need help with your health right now, please don’t wait for us: see Safety.
